Key points
- Fold is a self-help companion for adults (18+) who want to quit or cut down betting and gambling. It is not medical treatment, not a therapist and not a gambling operator.
- Fold is free to download. Fold Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription bought through Apple: Weekly £7.99 (no trial) or Yearly £59.99 with a 3-day free trial. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal in iPhone Settings → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel.
- Squad is a shared space. Be kind, no gambling tips or promotion, and you can delete your own posts at any time.
- The Blocker, SMS filter and Penny AI coach are helpful tools, not guarantees. They can be bypassed or get things wrong. You stay in charge of your recovery.
- If you are in crisis, use the helplines below or your local emergency number. Fold is not an emergency service.
- These terms are governed by French law, but you keep every consumer right your own country gives you (including the UK). Questions: support@app-fold.com.
01Who we are and acceptance of these terms
Effective 2 September 2026. These Terms of Use (the "terms") are an agreement between you and Fold, the app and website operated by Robin Basile-Linsolas, an individual developer based in France ("Fold", "we", "us"). They cover the Fold iPhone app (App Store listing "Fold - Quit Betting & Gambling"), the website at app-fold.com, including ally pages, and everything we provide through them (together, the "Service").
By downloading, installing or using Fold you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we handle and why. If you do not agree, please do not use Fold.
Fold is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. Where these terms give you more protection than Apple's EULA, these terms apply between you and us. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the Service beyond what its own EULA sets out.
Plain-English promise: we have written these terms to be read, not skimmed. Where a section matters most (subscriptions, liability, community rules) we have been precise on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us.
02Eligibility
Fold is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. Fold is designed for people who want to stop or reduce betting and gambling; it is not intended for children or anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly allow minors to use it. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we will close it.
You must also be legally able to enter into a contract in your country of residence, and you must not be prohibited from using the Service under the laws that apply to you.
03What Fold is — and is not
What Fold is
Fold is a self-help recovery companion. Depending on your plan, it gives you tools such as a bet-free streak counter, an estimate of money saved (calculated from the spend figures you enter), ranks and badges, a daily pledge, a "Panic — I want to bet" button with a breathing exercise and urge-surfing ("Ride the Wave"), a lapse protocol, a Library of self-help content, the Penny AI coach, the Squad community, an Ally feature, a Blocker built on Apple Screen Time, stats, local reminders and a list of crisis helplines.
Some Library content is produced automatically: "The Fold Sessions" episodes are narrated by on-device speech synthesis, not by real people, and ambient sounds are generated on your device. Money-saved figures are estimates based on what you tell us, not a financial record.
What Fold is not
- Not medical or clinical treatment. Fold is not a medical device, not a therapy service and not a substitute for a doctor, psychologist, counsellor or addiction specialist. The Library is educational, self-help content inspired by CBT principles; it is not a diagnosis or a personalised treatment plan.
- Not a gambling operator. Fold does not offer, promote or facilitate gambling of any kind. Operator names and logos appear only so you can choose what to block.
- Not a financial or legal adviser. Nothing in Fold is financial, debt or legal advice.
- No guarantee of outcomes. Recovery is personal and non-linear. We cannot and do not promise that you will stop gambling, stay stopped, save a particular amount of money or achieve any other result.
If you are in crisis, do not rely on Fold. Fold is not an emergency service and cannot respond to emergencies. If you are thinking about harming yourself, or someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number now. For gambling support or to talk to someone, these helplines are confidential.
Other useful resources: GamStop (UK online self-exclusion scheme), BeGambleAware, Gamblers Anonymous UK and NCPG in the US.
04Your account
You can sign in with Apple, sign in with Google, or tap "Skip for now". If you skip, Fold creates an anonymous account for you so your progress can sync between the app and our servers.
- One account per person. Your account is personal to you. Do not share it, sell it or let anyone else use it.
- Keep it safe. You are responsible for the security of the Apple ID or Google account you use to sign in and for everything that happens under your Fold account. If you think someone else has access, change your Apple or Google credentials and tell us at support@app-fold.com.
- Accurate details. Keep the information you give us (for example your display name) honest and non-misleading, and do not impersonate anyone.
- Anonymous accounts. If you use an anonymous account and lose or reset your device, we may not be able to recover your data because nothing ties the account to you. Signing in with Apple or Google from the start avoids this.
- Leaving. You can sign out at any time and delete your recovery data from Profile ("Delete everything"). For full account erasure, email us and we will complete it within 30 days. See the Privacy Policy for details.
05Fold Pro subscription
Fold is free to download. Some features require Fold Pro, an auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Which features are included in Fold Pro is shown in the app.
Plans and prices
| Plan | Price (UK) | Price (US) | Free trial | Renews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fold Pro — Weekly | £7.99 per week | US $7.99 per week | None | Every week |
| Fold Pro — Yearly | £59.99 per year | US $59.99 per year | 3 days, new subscribers only | Every year |
From time to time we may show eligible users a discounted introductory offer (for example a percentage off the first year). Any such offer, its price and its duration are displayed in the app before you buy; after the introductory period the subscription renews at the standard price shown at that time.
Prices vary by country and may include local taxes. The exact price in your local currency is always shown on the purchase screen in the app before you confirm. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase or, for the Yearly plan with a free trial, when the trial ends.
Auto-renewal and cancellation
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges the renewal to your Apple ID within the 24 hours before the new period starts.
- A free trial converts to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. You can cancel at any time during the trial; note that if you cancel during a free trial, Apple may end your access to Fold Pro straight away rather than at the end of the trial.
- To manage or cancel: open iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, choose Fold and tap Cancel. Cancellation of a paid period takes effect at the end of that period; you keep Fold Pro until then.
- Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. You must cancel in Settings.
- If you buy a paid subscription while a free trial is still running, any unused part of the free trial is forfeited.
Refunds
Because purchases are made through Apple, refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, and are subject to Apple's policies. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly and never see your payment card details.
Restoring purchases
If you reinstall Fold or switch to a new iPhone signed in with the same Apple ID, use the Restore link in the app to reactivate Fold Pro at no extra cost.
Your statutory rights
Because Fold Pro is sold through the App Store, your purchase is made from Apple under Apple's terms. If you live in the UK or the EU you have a legal right to cancel a digital-content or subscription purchase within 14 days without giving a reason, subject to the exceptions the law allows once you have asked for immediate access. Apple applies this right through its refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com; if Apple refuses a refund you believe you are entitled to, email us and we will help. Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law, including your rights where digital content is faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose.
Changes to prices or plans
We may change Fold Pro prices or what is included. If a price change affects an existing subscription, Apple will notify you in advance and, where required, ask for your consent before the new price applies. If you do not agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect. If you have a yearly subscription and do not accept a change that materially reduces the Service, you can cancel and request a refund for the unused period through Apple's refund process.
Will I be charged if I forget to cancel the free trial?
Yes. The 3-day Yearly trial becomes a paid yearly subscription at £59.99 (or your local price) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Set a reminder as soon as you start the trial if you are unsure.
I cancelled but was still charged. What now?
Check the cancellation date in Settings → Subscriptions. If the charge looks wrong, request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides refunds; we are happy to help you find the right screens at support@app-fold.com.
06Squad community rules and your content
Squad is a community feed where Fold users post, reply and react with "flames", plus a league leaderboard ranked by streak. Anything you post in Squad, along with your display name, avatar colour, streak days and last-seen time, is visible to other Fold users. Do not post anything you would not want other people to see.
The licence you give us
You own what you write. To run Squad we need your permission to use it, so you grant Fold a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, display and distribute your posts, replies and reactions to other Fold users within the Service, for as long as the content remains in the Service. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies, which purge within 30 days. We do not sell your content and do not use it for advertising.
What is not allowed in Squad
- Gambling tips, odds, "sure things", affiliate or referral links, or any promotion of betting, casinos, lotteries, trading schemes or gambling operators.
- Harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech or shaming of any person, including other members who have slipped.
- Posting anyone's private information (doxxing), including your own contact details or account numbers.
- Spam, advertising, repetitive posts, bots or scraping.
- Content that is illegal, sexually explicit, violent, or that infringes someone else's rights.
- Encouraging self-harm, or content that could put a vulnerable person at risk.
- Impersonating Fold, moderators or other users, or manipulating the leaderboard.
Moderation
We do not pre-screen posts, but we review every report. To report a post, email support@app-fold.com with a description or a screenshot. We may remove or hide content, and restrict, suspend or close accounts that break these rules or put the community at risk. If we remove or hide your content or restrict your account, we will tell you and explain why, unless the law prevents it or the content is clearly spam. If you think we got it wrong, reply to that notice or email us, and a person will review the decision and answer you. We are not responsible for what other users write, but we act on what you tell us.
Deleting your posts
You can delete your own posts at any time from within the app. Deleting your account removes your Squad content too.
Squad is peer support, not professional support. Other members are people in recovery, not counsellors. Be generous with kindness and cautious with advice.
07Ally
Ally lets you invite one trusted person to support you. You share a personal link in the form app-fold.com/ally/<code>; whoever opens it can become your ally, check in on you and be alerted if you record a slip.
- You choose what to share. Your ally sees only what the Ally feature is designed to share, as described in the app (for example your streak status and slip alerts). If you want to end the ally relationship, email support@app-fold.com and we will stop sharing with your ally.
- Guard the link. Anyone with your invite code can accept the invitation, so share it only with the person you trust. If you shared it by mistake, email support@app-fold.com so we can disable it.
- Your ally is a person, not a service. They are under no obligation to respond, and Fold does not guarantee that alerts will be delivered or acted on. Do not rely on an ally in an emergency.
- Your ally's data is their own. Anything your ally provides to Fold is handled under our Privacy Policy; you must have their permission before inviting them, and you must not invite someone who does not want to be involved.
08Blocker, Screen Time and the SMS filter
The Blocker helps you put distance between yourself and gambling. It uses Apple's Screen Time technology to shield the betting apps and websites you select. Apple gives Fold only opaque tokens for your selection: we cannot see which apps you chose, and that choice never leaves your device.
You can also choose to install a DNS profile from Mullvad (mullvad.net), an independent third-party service, and to enable an optional SMS filter extension that classifies texts from unknown senders on your device to filter gambling promotions. Message content is analysed on your device and is not sent to Fold.
These are best-effort tools, not a wall. Shields can be switched off, Screen Time settings can be changed, DNS profiles can be removed, filters can miss messages or filter the wrong ones, and new operators appear all the time. Fold does not guarantee that any gambling app, website or message will be blocked. You remain responsible for your own choices and for how you configure your device. If you want a stronger barrier, combine the Blocker with formal self-exclusion such as GamStop in the UK.
- The Blocker requires permissions you grant in iOS. If you deny or later revoke them, the feature will not work.
- Mullvad DNS is provided by Mullvad under its own terms and privacy policy. Installing its profile is your choice; we do not control that service and are not responsible for it.
- Blocking may occasionally affect sites or apps you did not intend to block. You can adjust your selection at any time.
09Penny, the AI coach
Penny is a text-based coach powered by an artificial-intelligence language model. Your messages are sent to our server and forwarded to OpenAI to generate a reply, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Penny is AI-generated and can be wrong. Replies may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or unsuitable for your situation. Use your judgement and check anything important with a qualified person.
- Penny is not a therapist, doctor, counsellor or financial adviser, and no professional relationship is created by talking to Penny.
- Do not rely on Penny in a crisis. Penny cannot call for help. If you are at risk, use the helplines above or your local emergency number.
- Think before you share. Do not send Penny information you would not want processed by an AI service, such as card numbers, passwords or other people's private details.
- Do not use Penny to generate gambling strategies, to try to break its safety guidance, or for anything unrelated to your recovery. We may limit Penny usage to keep the Service reliable.
10Acceptable use
Fold exists to help people stop gambling. Please use it only for that purpose and in line with the law. You must not:
- use Fold to promote, advertise or facilitate gambling, or to contact other users for that purpose;
- harass, threaten, exploit or deceive other users, or collect their information;
- copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile or create derivative works of the app, except where the law expressly allows it;
- bypass or interfere with security, rate limits, subscription checks or any other part of the Service;
- use bots, scrapers or automated tools on the Service, or attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours;
- upload malicious code or anything that could damage the Service or other users' devices;
- use Fold in any way that breaks the law in your country or infringes anyone's rights.
11Intellectual property
Fold, its name, logo, design, code, text, courses, audio, illustrations and all other content we create are owned by Fold or its licensors and protected by copyright, trade mark and other laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by Apple's EULA and these terms. You may not use our content outside the app or for commercial purposes without our written permission.
Third-party material
- Some images in the Library are photographs from Unsplash, used under the Unsplash License and owned by their photographers.
- The fonts Anton, Oswald and Fraunces are used under the SIL Open Font License; the copyright remains with their designers.
- Names and logos of gambling operators appear only so you can identify what to block. This is nominative use: those marks belong to their owners, and Fold has no affiliation with, sponsorship from or endorsement by any gambling operator.
If you believe content in Fold infringes your rights, email support@app-fold.com with details and we will look into it promptly.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions, you agree we may use them to improve Fold without any obligation to you. We will never claim ownership of your personal story.
12Third-party services
Fold relies on a small number of other companies to work. Each has its own terms and privacy policy:
| Provider | What it does for Fold |
|---|---|
| Apple | App Store distribution, In-App Purchase and subscriptions, Sign in with Apple, Screen Time (Blocker) |
| Sign in with Google | |
| Supabase | Authentication and database hosting in the EU (Frankfurt) |
| OpenAI | Generates Penny's replies |
| Superwall | Displays the paywall and receives purchase events and device information |
| Mullvad | Optional DNS profile you can install yourself for extra blocking |
There is an important distinction here. Providers we use to run Fold (Supabase, OpenAI and Superwall) act on our instructions, and we remain responsible to you for them as set out in these terms and our Privacy Policy. Services you choose to use directly, such as Mullvad DNS, Sign in with Apple or Google, and external sites we link to (helplines, self-exclusion schemes), are provided by their operators under their own terms; we do not control them and are not responsible for their availability, content or conduct. How all these providers handle personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
13Disclaimers and limitation of liability
What we do not exclude
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of your country. If you are a consumer, you keep all the rights the law gives you, and these terms do not affect them.
Our responsibility to you
We will provide Fold with reasonable care and skill, and if you are a consumer we are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our breach of these terms or our negligence. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable, for loss caused by your breach of these terms, or for business losses: Fold is for personal use only.
Things we cannot promise
- We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available, that content is complete or accurate, or that the Blocker, SMS filter, Penny or any other feature will achieve a particular result. This does not affect your legal right, where you pay for Fold Pro, to digital content that is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
- We are not responsible for gambling losses, debts or other financial consequences of your decisions to gamble. The Blocker, SMS filter and other tools are best-effort aids, and their failure to prevent a bet is not, in itself, a breach of these terms; this does not exclude our responsibility for foreseeable loss caused by our negligence.
- We are not responsible for the actions or omissions of other users or of your ally, or for services you choose to use directly such as Mullvad DNS, Sign in with Apple or Google, or external sites we link to. Providers we use to run Fold (for example Supabase, OpenAI and Superwall) act on our instructions, and we remain responsible to you for them as set out in these terms and our Privacy Policy.
- Streak, money-saved and similar figures are estimates based on the data you enter and are for motivation, not accounting.
Cap on liability
Subject to the paragraph headed "What we do not exclude" and to your non-excludable statutory rights, if you pay for Fold Pro our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the total amount you paid for Fold Pro through Apple in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. If you have not paid for Fold Pro, this cap does not apply and our responsibility is as described under "Our responsibility to you". Nothing in this section limits your right to repair or compensation if digital content we supply damages your device or other digital content.
14Suspension and termination
By you
You can stop using Fold at any time by deleting the app and, if you wish, deleting your data from Profile or emailing us to erase your account. Remember that deleting the app does not cancel a Fold Pro subscription; cancel it in iPhone Settings → Subscriptions.
By us
We may suspend or close your account, or restrict features, if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, if we are required to by law, if your behaviour puts other users at risk, or if we need to protect the security or integrity of the Service. Where reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. We may also withdraw or change the Service, or parts of it, if we decide to stop offering it; we will give reasonable notice where we can, and any prepaid period you lose as a result will be dealt with through Apple's refund process.
Closing your account does not cancel a Fold Pro subscription, because only you can do that: cancel it in iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. If we close your account for a reason other than your breach of these terms, you can request a refund of any unused prepaid period through Apple's refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com, and we will support your request.
When your account ends, your licence to use the app ends, and we will delete your data in line with our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, liability, governing law) continue to apply.
15Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Fold evolves or the law changes. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email if we have one for you, in good time before the change takes effect. If you continue to use Fold after the new terms take effect, you accept them. If you do not agree, you can stop using Fold and cancel any subscription before the change applies. If you have a yearly subscription and do not accept a change that materially reduces the Service, you can cancel and request a refund for the unused period through Apple's refund process. Changes will not remove any consumer right you are entitled to by law.
16Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of France. This does not take away the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live, including the United Kingdom and EU member states; where those rules give you more protection, they apply.
If you have a problem, please contact us first at support@app-fold.com; most issues can be sorted out quickly and informally. If we cannot resolve a dispute, you may bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live where mandatory law gives you that right; otherwise disputes will be heard by the French courts. If you live in the EU, you may also be entitled to use an approved consumer mediation service; email us and we will tell you what applies. Consumers in the UK may contact their local consumer advice service.
If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing a provision on one occasion does not mean we waive it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Apple's EULA, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. This does not exclude anything we told you before you bought Fold Pro, including on the App Store page and the purchase screen, which forms part of our agreement. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else; we may transfer ours to a successor who takes over Fold, provided your rights are not reduced.
